Food Council Meeting at Meadow Woods

3/28/2018

Our new dietary director, Theresa Carlson, held a very well attended food council meeting where she learned the preferences of our residents.  She took each concern to heart and addressed it on the spot.  Many residents and staff members were happy to hear all the positive changes that she plans to implement.  If you want to make your voice heard about food at Meadow Woods or the Care Center, please feel free to visit our dietary services page and Ask a Chef.

We encourage everyone to stop by at some point and have lunch with us!  Mention this post to Amy and get a free lunch!  952-948-5167

Dementia Friends Informational Session Offered at Martin Luther Campus

2/26/2018

We will be having a Dementia Friends Information Session Every First Tuesday of the month in partnership with the Bloomington Public Health Department.  Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia. Developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom, the Dementia Friends initiative is underway in Minnesota and across the United States. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects families, each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia.

Valentine's Party at Meadow Woods

2/14/2018

It was a combination of the planning efforts of Heidi the Director of Activities and Events, as well as, Tommie Daye and the dietary staff to throw a very fun holiday event.  Martin Luther Campus is no stranger to a festive event and today is no different.

Everyone in the community was welcomed with open arms to join in on the fun and food.  Between the fancy meat and cheese spread, to the homemade chocolate covered strawberries, wash it down with a glass of white wine and call it a Happy Valentines Day!

Ash Wednesday Services Offered at Martin Luther Campus

Lent is a reverent religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that beings on Ash Wednesday and ends about six weeks later before Easter Sunday.  The purpose of Lent is to prepare believers through prayer, fasting, and penance for the coming Celebration of Easter.  An interesting fact about Ash Wednesday is that they get all the ashes from the dried palm branches gathered at the previous year's Palm Sunday.

Take a few minutes today to reflect upon your own life and ponder how you can grow in your spiritual walk today.  Our chaplain David Cobb is always willing to help you along your spiritual journey no matter what your faith background is.  We are blessed to have him on our campus and hope you can join us soon.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser Set For Valentines Day Postponed Until April

2/12/2018

Many staff last month took part in making some beautiful clay bowls for our Empty Bowls Fundraiser to benefit our local foodshelf, VEAP.  We were planning on having it be a Valentine's fundraiser on February 14th, 2018, but we will be pushing it back a few months this year.  We are sorry if this is an inconvenience to anyone who is planning on coming, but we truly appreciate your support.

In the meantime, we encourage you to check out the VEAP website as to how you can make a difference now and help feed hungry Minnesotans today!

Celebrating Culinary and Nutritional Services Week 2018!

Resident Birthdays Made Extra Special!

Martin Luther Care Center Culinary and Nutritional Services staff and Chef Rickey Turner make monthly resident birthday luncheons a superb dining experience.
The team’s main goal was to make the resident’s birthday luncheon as special as possible. Together, they came up with the idea to prepare menu items of foods they don’t normally have.  Thanks to the efforts and creativity of the culinary team, the menu consists of prime rib, fried rice, an assorted vegetable mix (not normally served on the regular menu) along with rolls and butter and of course, hot coffee and birthday cake!

Residents love the prime rib dinner prepared especially for them in honor of their birthday.  They particularly seem to enjoy and feel good about the message the meal conveys, that they are special and so is their special day!

As we celebrate Culinary and Nutritional Services Week, we thank our Culinary and Nutritional Services team for their creativity and hard work in preparing nutritional and appetizing food, not only for special events, but for all the meals that are prepared and well planned each and every day!

The Wright Medical Group Gift Exchange with our Residents

12/20/2017

The Wright Medical Group first came to us in June because they were looking for a place to volunteer and they have been an absolute joy ever since!  They came on a monthly basis and one of the volunteers from Wright, Amanda, suggested a gift giving campaign at their office.

They put up a tree in their office with ornaments labeled with specific resident needs and asked staff to choose an ornament to give some gifts for our residents.

The gift exchange happened yesterday and we had so many happy residents!  I guess it just takes the Wright kind of people to make some holiday happiness happen this year.  Thank you Wright Medical Group!
