We enjoyed healthy snacks and beverages provided to us from our Director of Culinary Services at Ebenezer, Sue Brinkhaus. She came to discuss the importance of healthy diets as we age. We received helpful hints about good nutrition and came away with a wealth of knowledge. We ate hummus, lettuce wraps, mashed cauliflower, kale chips, chocolate coconut milk mousse with mint crystals, and pumpkin granola bars. Please reach out to us if you would like any of the recipes.
Some highlights to remember is that as we get older: -Eat calcium rich foods -Use low fat/fat free dairy -Increase fruits, vegetables, and whole grains -Eat more nutrient dense foods over calorie dense foods -Avoid excess salt, sugar, fat, and alcohol -Make sure you have proper fluid intake (Bloomington's tap water is rated #1 in the nation!) All of this is here to help us maintain a healthy body weight and encourages us to remain physically active well into our 90s.
