More than 250 Fairview caregivers were recognized by grateful patients as part of Fairview’s 2014 Doctors’ Day celebration.
Observed on March 30, this national holiday celebrates the contributions physicians make to our patients and our communities. Grateful Fairview patients donated on behalf of their caregivers through Fairview Foundation’s Champions of Care program. Patient Lotta Odenbaugh and her Champion of Care, Gregory Schoen, MD. “These special Champions of Care gifts recognize and celebrate the incredible care provided by our caregivers as they save lives, change lives and improve health in the communities that we serve,” says Richard J. Howard, president of Fairview Foundation. “And, every donation made through the Champions of Care program helps build the future of health care in Minnesota and beyond.” Physicians recognized in our Doctors’ Day celebration receive a custom-crafted pin, a note of appreciation and public recognition in our Honor Roll. As recognitions that only a patient can award, these Champion of Care honors are the ultimate patient “seal of approval” and our doctors wear their lapel pins with obvious pride. Check our 2014 Doctors’ Day Honor Roll to see who was honored.

1401 E 100 St, Bloomington, MN 55425 Lifelong learning in the arts educates and engages older adults as teachers, learners and creators which contribute to overall quality of life and much more. Recently, Martin Luther Campus residents and Adult Day Participants created beautiful artwork with the assistance of Artistry from Bloomington Center of Arts. Their art spells out the words LOVE, FAITH and HARMONY. To the seniors’ surprise, Alzheimer’s Association asked if they could display the artwork for everyone to see. What an honor!
"We are proud to host these beautiful pieces created by people in our community who are impacted by Alzheimer’s disease," said Rebecca Ayaz, Director of Volunteer Engagement at the Alzheimer's Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter. "The Alzheimer's Association Art Gallery is a space that brings local artists' creations into a work environment for staff, volunteers and visitors to enjoy." Martin Luther Campus residents, staff and family are beyond honored and very proud that so many will get to see the beautiful pieces that were created with love, much effort and authenticity. A HUGE thank you to Sally Peterson for this creative idea of artwork created and connecting us with the Alzheimer’s Association. Your heart and passion for serving older adults is larger than all of Bloomington! Click HERE to learn more about our amazing Lifelong Learning Programs! We enjoyed healthy snacks and beverages provided to us from our Director of Culinary Services at Ebenezer, Sue Brinkhaus. She came to discuss the importance of healthy diets as we age. We received helpful hints about good nutrition and came away with a wealth of knowledge. We ate hummus, lettuce wraps, mashed cauliflower, kale chips, chocolate coconut milk mousse with mint crystals, and pumpkin granola bars. Please reach out to us if you would like any of the recipes.
Some highlights to remember is that as we get older: -Eat calcium rich foods -Use low fat/fat free dairy -Increase fruits, vegetables, and whole grains -Eat more nutrient dense foods over calorie dense foods -Avoid excess salt, sugar, fat, and alcohol -Make sure you have proper fluid intake (Bloomington's tap water is rated #1 in the nation!) All of this is here to help us maintain a healthy body weight and encourages us to remain physically active well into our 90s. ![]() Do you have a caregiver's spirit?
